King Arthur

The identity highlights what makes this modern take on Henry Purcell's semi-opera different from previous productions by hinting at its setting in a semi-industrial, bleak climate and by taking inspiration from the found materials of the set design.

Project Overview

In 2022, IADT and RIAM presented Henry Purcell’s "King Arthur," directed by Aoife Spillane-Hinks and conducted by David Adams, at the Samuel Beckett Theatre. The opera depicts the conflict between King Arthur's Britons and the Saxon invaders, focusing on King Arthur's mission to rescue his fiancée, the blind Cornish Princess Emmeline, from the clutches of the Saxon King Oswald of Kent.

A poster design and identity for a production of King Arthur in collaboration with the Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin. The identity highlights what makes this modern take on Henry Purcell's semi-opera different from previous productions by hinting at its setting in a semi-industrial, bleak climate and by taking inspiration from the found materials of the set design. The identity uses photographed pieces of stone, twigs, driftwood, metal screws, nails, chain and clay to tell the love story between King Arthur and the kidnapped Princess Emmeline.
