Grandad
Grandad is a dark, quietly unsettling ghost story in which a small girl arrives at what she believes to be her grandfather’s birthday party. Confused by the subdued mood of the gathered adults, she wanders through the house in search of him. She eventually finds her grandfather lying peacefully “asleep” and, seeking comfort, climbs in beside him. The revelation comes gradually: this is not a bed but a coffin. As the lid is closed and the coffin is moved toward the crematorium incinerator, the child remains unseen and unheard. The only object left behind is her discarded teddy bear, a fragile trace of innocence lost. The story unfolds through restraint and atmosphere, using misrecognition and silence to transform a moment of tenderness into quiet horror.
